"Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" with Nina Persson

Four movies today – the best one about kids doin’ ballroom dancing in New York!
But the song is the new one from Nina Persson (from Cardigans) who also is the main actress in the beautiful (but a bit slow and "arty" for me) "Om Gud Vill".

"A Different Corner" with George Michael

New day. New movies.
I saw one brilliant documentary about George Michael today, called George Michael: A Different Story. It made me run home and fill my iPod with his hits right away! Such an inspiering man...and what good songs!!
Unfortunately I had very little Wham! on mp3s….almost all my Wham! songs are on vinyl.
Anyone who can help me?

"Seasons of Love" from Rent

Tired as hell. A wreck. Party to 4 o’clock and then I went up at 8 for the train to Gothenburg…
But now I’m here and it is finally Film Festival 2006!
Two movies today (none of them very good, actually) and for the song of the day I choose the one hit song from the musical (and from now on also the movie) "Rent".

"Känn Ingen Sorg För Mig Göteborg" with Håkan Hellström

Yesterday was the first day of Göteborg Film Festival, and for the first time in ages I’m not there from the start… It feels a bit strange - but don't be sad! It’s for a good cause – my sisters big birthday party and I’ll get into it tomorrow instead. Hopefully the following week will contain some of my greatest movie moments for 2006!
Very exciting indeed.
Look out for reviews (in Swedish) in the other blog, and for songs related to the movies I see in this one!

"The Wanderer" with Johnny Cash feat. U2

Heeeey!
My music chart is back this week. Felt it was time to reveal what’s being played in my iPod while in Stockholm.
The last chart had U2 feat. Mary J Blige as number one (the only remaining song from that chart by the way…Madonna left my chart after 11 weeks on it with "Hung Up"…but I know she’s lurking in the shadows with one of the biggest hits this spring so just look out) and now another U2 collaboration takes the lead. It’s an old favorite of mine (from U2’s Zooropa album) that have sprung to life again due to my new found Johnny Cash obsession, an obsession that also gives you number 6 and 10 on the chart.
The Texas song have I covered here and the Knife hit here.
Milky and Sunblock are two radio-favorites that have been on the radio for a while now and finally got their way into my iPod, and Ladytron and Black Eyed Peas (yeah, I’m also shocked…I HATE the B.E.P….but this one is irresistible due to its PulpFiction-sample) are this weeks new favorites played all the time on Swedish radio P3.

Here we go:

01/NE/01/01/Johnny Cash feaut. U2 - The Wanderer
02/NE/02/01/
Texas feat. Paul Buchanan - Sleep
03
/NE/03/01/

"Frozen" with Madonna

The best piece of tabloid news this week is certainly:

"That’s why I keep my mother and father in the fridge!"

That article really has it all.
It’s bizarre: He actually has his both parents frozen in the basement.
It’s tragic: They want to take his frozen parents away from him.
It’s kind-a-cute: He doesn’t believe in this freezing-technique, but he celebrates the will of his dead parents
It’s religious: He’s made a cross on the door to the basement, since he wanted "some kind of spirituality" in the room (even though he didn’t know if his parents where Christians) (probably not by the way…I don’t think God would have liked them frozen)
It’s fun: There actually is a town called Nederland in Denver, Colorado which already has a frozen dead guy and therefore celebrates "Frozen Dead Guy Day" every year
It’s enlightening from a customer perspective: It costs 900 000 to freeze your whole body when you die – half the prize for just the head.

"I'll Be There for You" with The Rembrandts

(False) Rumor of the week:
The cast of "Friends" will re-unite for four new one-hour episodes this year…
Well, with a promised salary of $5.000.000 for each friend, I guess that wouldn't have been such a hard decision…more like a present from above.
Have any of them had a decent career since the last episode?
Nope.
Not even all the flops of Jennifer Aniston or the sad and tragic show that is "Joey" can count as careers.
Let’s hope this will turn out to be true some day and that the writers will get some of the dough also then, so we’ll get some good scripts for the episodes also…
…the show was really, really far from its former greatness when it was cancelled.
Let’s hope for a script like the shows in season one! Where Phoebe sings! And Chandler IS funny! And Joey DOESN’T say "How you doin?". And the Gellers act like human beings and not crazy stereotype.
THAT would be worth $5.000.000!

"Don’t Worry Be Happy" with Bobby McFerrin

Today is the most depressing day of the year, according to Professor Cliff Arnall on the University of Cardiff.
Oh joy.
Like everything has been sunshine and pieces of cake until today.
Well, I guess it’s just to hang in there everyone and keep your eyes fixed on tomorrow (like anything is better then…except for my Sis birthday maybe…but otherwise…it’s not payday until Wednesday!).
Let’s have something happy as the song of today, shall we!

"Sleep" with Texas feat. Paul Buchanan

Tomorrow I’m going up at 5 o’clock to catch the train to Stockholm.
I really, really should be sleeping now.

The song of today is the one I can’t get out of my head right now…which is quite extraordinary, since it is with Texas and included a flute-solo!
Maybe I’m getting soft?

"Ring of Fire" with Johnny Cash

The song of today is my absolute favourite right now.
As you understand I’m still totally hooked up on Mr Johnny Cash... So instead of writing about something new in today’s blog, I just encourage you to read yesterdays blog, my Swedish review – or just go and watch the damn film instead (if you’re in Sweden you’ll have to wait some weeks, though. I was luckily invited to a preview).
And since the picture yesterday was showing the movie’s version och Johnny&June, I’ll give you the originals today.

"Walk the Line" with Johnny Cash

Movietip of the day:
Walk the Line by James Mangold

Last night I saw a beautiful movie called "Walk the Line" about the life of the country legend Johnny Cash. The story of the movie might not have been something you’ve never seen before in the rock-artist genre; abusive father, bad marriage, alcohol and drug-problems, touring with a young Elvis (oh, maybe that one)...but it was so beautifully acted by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon that these things didn’t matter after a while...and they both sung all the songs in the movie by themselves. Very impressive and truly Oscarworthy.
You'll find my review in Swedish here!

But the absolute best thing with the movie must have been the music, and the big spin-off effect is that I can’t stop listening to Johnny Cash today.
Damn that man made some good music!

"Silent Shout" with The Knife

Back in Gothenburg for one week…and it’s Thursday. Everyone who has been reading this blog knows what that means: Flip/Flop time! Up for grabs this week is the new single from the Swedish siblings in The Knife, called "Silent Shout".

D-man: Flip
They're back and I love the sound. Such a beat! But hey... wait... now they pretend to sing. And now as they don't, I'm happy again. Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! What's this then...No! They're "singing" again... stop messing with my ears. I like it more when they shut up and just play their instruments. However, this is a serious smash hit for any trance-inspired-london-wanna-be dancefloor.

(a new)E-man: Flip
Strangely irritating but remarkably clever. Intellectual disco music for the C64 generation which are used to SID chip blip-and-blop extravaganzas. You must like it! I'm not sure about the massive bass in flipflopmaster's subwoofer though...

K-man: Flip
This sounds so….different….or something….at least for the music I’ve listened to for a while now. But I like it. I can’t stop listening to it. And it makes me feel like walking into the Cyberdog store in Camden, London. And that’s really on of the highest grades you can get in my world.

I guess you noticed we have a stand in for our regular E-man (actually another E-man) since it all turned green as a summer meadow this time. The Knife has a solid Flip in their hands!

"Wanna Be Starting Something" with Michael Jackson

One headline in today’s paper (Aftonbladet, the biggest tabloid in Sweden) said:

"A poor Michael Jackson has to get an ordinary job"

When you read that you obviously think about a fragile Michael standing among some butch carpenters or factory workers…or maybe cleaning someone’s puke up from a hospital toilet…or driving a cab…or any other common work. Then you read the next line:

"Will help out starting amusement parks in the middle-east"

…and then you really start doubting that anyone at Aftonbladet EVER has had an ordinary job…

"I Don’t Sleep Well" with Hello Saferide

Wow, when I wrote yesterday’s blog I couldn’t anticipate that the use of the song of today (which I talked briefly about yesterday) would come so quickly...but it did.
I’ve had a terrible night, sleep wise. I really don’t think I have slept at all.
And for no know reason.
It just didn’t work.
Maybe I was upset because USA had "Golden Globes" and we where stuck with "Idrottsgalan 2006" where badly dressed sportsmen (and women) where collecting ugly prizes in-between Beatles covers and horrific celebrity imitations – but I really don’t think so.
It was just "another of these nights" where my brain can’t stop flickering like the scene with all the TV-monitors in the last Matrix-movie (or was it the second? I really hated the sequels) and there’s no way I can even do something in the close area to sleeping.
I guess it’s a symptom of something...
...maybe the next sleepless night I will try to figure out what.

"Like a Virgin" with Madonna

Some songs you just don’t want to use right away here in the blog...you want to wait for the exactly right time. It can be a son like U2’s "New Years Day" which had been an alternative to use during my U2 Week last summer – but I saved it for (surprise!) New Years day, since I knew it would be perfect. Other examples could be for instance "I Don’t Sleep Well" with Hello Saferide which I safe for some day where I’ve had a really bad night (as I unfortunately have quite often now a days).

With that said, I can honestly say that I didn’t have to think twice about using the song of today right away. I’m as certain as you can be that there won’t be any perfect time to use it...

On my way home from work/gym/FF, "Like a Virgin" with Madonna came on the iPod. Though a bit overplayed during my life, it still works, actually…and it always make me think of a lot of stuff:

* The scene in Moulin Rouge when Jim Broadbent’s Harold Zidler sings a remarkable version of the song (with some very gay dancers) to make Richard Roxburgh’s Duke think Satine’s absents is just due to her being afraid and feeling like a virgin (while she in reality has passed out)
* The sort of country-ish version with Lars Vegas Trio with its festive: “Like a Virgin…TJO!!”
* The actual video with Madonna and a lion in Vienna
* The opening scene in Reservoir dogs where Tarantino’s Mr Brown explains that the song is actually about a girl dating a man with a very, very huge dick:
Mr. Brown: O.K., let me tell you what Like a Virgin's about. It's all about this cooze who's a regular fuck machine; I'm talking morning, day, night, afternoon, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick.
Mr. Blue: How many dicks is that?
Mr. White: A lot.
Mr. Brown: Then one day she meets this John Holmes motherfucker and it's like, whoa baby, I mean this cat is like Charles Bronson in the Great Escape, he's digging tunnels. Now, she's gettin' the serious dick action and she's feeling something she ain't felt since forever. Pain. Pain. It hurts her. It shouldn't hurt her, you know her pussy should be Bubble Yum by now, but when this cat fucks her it hurts. It hurts just like it did the first time. You see the pain is reminding a fuck machine what it once was like to be a virgin. Hence, "Like a virgin."

"Big Gay Heart" with Lemonheads

Right now I’m working on a new presentation for my personal site at QX’s community Qruiser.
It’s quite hard to write something not to long, not to short, not too goofy, but still not to serious. No lies – but still not telling all the (boring) truth. In short: To present you in a selling way to attract just the right people…
One thing you also would like to avoid is to come out TOO gay in your presentation…but to avoid that I guess you have to make sure that you not are too gay. Yes; I am working with technical stuff as an engineer, and yes, I went out for some beers (not Cosmos) yesterday at a bar with my two best friends…but in spite of that…how do I know?
Because of this I started to think of (and will hereby list) the five gayest things I’ve done this week:

5. Surfed into Qruiser while connected to the internet at 7Eleven.
4. Went to see "Jarhead" despite of lackluster reviews, since I knew Jake Gyllenhaal would be naked in it.
3. Bought the latest issue of "Attitude" and a little pink plastic case with green dots for my Stockholm traveling card.
2. Made a playlist in my iPod called "Kylie&Madge" consisting only of songs from Kylie Minouge and Madonna.
1. Started to cry in public (in a full seated train cabin) while watching a very sad episode of "Grey’s Anatomy".

Well, what do you say? Too gay?
If my readers hadn’t been all imaginary you could have told me in the talk-back…
Otherwise I guess I will have to be my own judge and jury.

"Christmas Time Will Soon Be Over" from Cold Mountain OST

To take away all my Christmas-stuff (my gnomes I got from my gnome-collecting mum, my plastic tree with all its ornaments, the electric candlesticks and stars in my windows, the candlelight and the red table-pieces) is not only one of the most boring things I know - it is also one of the most depressing.
I guess I should look at it as the beginning of a new year and a start, but I don’t know why, but I always get a strange feeling of ending and closure…and not in a good way.
Maybe it’s simply because my flat gets so much darker without al the extra lights (since the darkness still is compact outside in the January-cold Gothenburg), or maybe it is because all the holidays definitely are over and there are no more free working-days until Easter.
Or maybe it is just because I’ve turned in to such a boring, depressed, pessimistic kinda’ person in recent year…
I have to change that attitude I Stockholm; otherwise I will find no new friends at all. And I guess I have to change that attitude for myself ; otherwise I don’t want to be friends with myself anymore.

This is turning into quite a self-revealing, therapeutic kind of blog…tomorrow I HAVE to write about something very light weight, or else I might loose my imaginary readers…

"I'm Confused" with Pandora

Today I’m going back to Gothenburg. Home I guess. But it was actually a little sad leaving my hotel room, and those marvelous breakfasts…
But now I get to see FF again! And J-man! And all the other crazy people.
And at the same time it feels a bit…hmm….wrong I guess…not to be here next week. I get used to things very fast. Very, very fast.
I know already know I won’t be happy going back to Stockholm a week from now.
I’m very strange that way.
I don’t even get myself.

"Einsam in Truben Tragen" with Birgit Nilsson

Dammit!
No "Brokeback Mountain" at Göteborg Film Festival as promised this year.
DISAPPOINTED!!!
And the problem with finding an apartment for my year in Stockholm isn’t quite solved yet (99%...but with my luck)…
...and then I found out that P - the most friendly & funniest guy here at my new work - is home sick today.
Hmmm. Not a good start of this Thursday.

And by the way; Yesterday it was found out that Birgit Nilsson had died.
I’m not a very big opera-fan…not at all, actually - but I have very interested friends who always have declared Birgit to be one of the world greatest…
…and since death goes so well along with this "bad started day"-theme, I give you the song of to day as a tribute for Birgit.
